Crawled but not indexed: diagnosing product pages in Google

“Crawled, currently not indexed” is not an instruction to submit the same address repeatedly. It does not establish a store malfunction on its own. Read it alongside the specific URL, its content and Google’s known version. Start with an important published product, then separate technical access from indexing selection and appearance in search. Adding words or purchasing a submission service guarantees neither indexing nor a particular ranking.

Inspect the correct address

Copy the URL from your published store using the domain customers visit. You may otherwise inspect an old address, preview, deleted product or another version. Open it without signing in and check product, language and price before using the corresponding Search Console property. A report for another address may be accurate but irrelevant to the page you want customers to discover.

Record the final destination and redirects. After a name or URL change, maintain a clear old-to-new mapping. Do not create another address every time indexing takes longer than expected. That fragments links and complicates comparison among closely related versions.

Read the status before choosing an action

SituationUseful question
Discovered but not crawledIs the page important, accessible and linked within the store?
Crawled but not indexedDo content and preferred version form a useful page?
Excluded by noindexIs exclusion intended or should the setting be reviewed?
Redirect or 404Are you examining an old address or a removed page?

These are not automatic explanations of every underlying cause. One affected URL does not mean all products have the same problem. Choose a representative sample and distinguish important public products from addresses you do not intend to appear, such as internal results or private content.

Separate indexed information from a live test

Build my storefront

A report can describe the last version Google knows, while the page has changed since then. A live test helps check current accessibility, without promising that the page will be selected or ranked. Review its date and Google-selected canonical. Successful loading today does not establish that every historical report has immediately updated.

If the page is unavailable, correct access first. If it works but another version appears to be preferred, understand their relationship before deleting and recreating the product. Randomly blocking crawling is not a substitute for diagnosing duplicate versions.

Review content as a customer would

Does the page explain product, dimensions, package contents, limitations and delivery? Or is it a picture with a generic name and the same text repeated elsewhere? Add genuine information from your own experience and customer questions without inventing specifications or copying unverified supplier claims. There is no magic phrase or fixed word count that guarantees indexing. Useful content is not the same as artificial length.

Organize images, descriptions and titles in Matjri, then inspect the public page customers see. Link it from a relevant category or guide instead of leaving it isolated behind an old advertising link. Do not manufacture reviews to make the page appear richer.

A fictional prioritization example

Imagine 30 products:8 permanently unavailable,6 new pages that are nearly identical and 16 ongoing products. The merchant need not submit all 30 equally. First examine the 16 important pages, decide whether discontinued items have useful continuing content or should be removed appropriately, and rewrite the six similar pages around genuine differences. This is a commercial and editorial plan, not a forecast of Google’s choices.

If 60 TND is reserved for explanatory photography of three important products, the illustrative cost is 20 TND per product. That does not purchase indexing or guaranteed sales. Record the added information, date and inspected URL so you can assess actual work rather than repeatedly chasing an unexplained status.

Follow a diagnostic checklist

Your idea, your way

Start small. Improve with every order.

Bring products, orders and delivery into one practical workspace.

Explore Matjri
  1. Select an important published URL and check access without login.
  2. Read status, date and selected canonical version.
  3. Review directives and historical addresses with the technical owner where necessary.
  4. Improve factual content and internal links, then test the current page.
  5. Request inspection or indexing where appropriate and retain the date without promising a deadline.

Your next step is one page and a documented conclusion, not changing the entire shop immediately. If you are starting, prepare well-described products in Matjri and examine usability before search performance. Correct configuration can support discovery without forcing a search engine to index or rank a page.

Frequently asked questions

Should I request indexing every day?

Repeated submission cannot replace understanding the status and making a useful improvement where needed. Keep your request date. More button presses do not guarantee quicker processing or appearance.

Should every 404 redirect to the homepage?

No. A genuine equivalent replacement may justify a suitable redirect. Deleted content without an equivalent should not be sent arbitrarily to a page addressing another need. The customer’s original purpose still matters.

Does a successful live test mean the product appears in search?

No. It checks certain aspects of the current page. Indexing, canonical selection and actual appearance are separate questions. Read the known-version report and tool limitations before interpreting the result.
